Tigurius’s Honor - First Run

March 17th, 2008

Well, over the weekend, I played against my good buddy that runs the Grey Knight’s Blog.  However, this time, he was running his Space Wolves.  I thought it was an interesting game.  The list I used is the one mentioned previously.  His list was similar to mine, except for the fact that it was Space Wolves and included tanks and bikes.

If you’re going to be photographing your miniatures, then you need to build one of these.  Seriously.

New Ultramarines List

March 11th, 2008

So, check out the list after the jump.  I finally broke down and bought Army Builder.  Hopefully this means I’ll be able to think about lists a little bit more during the day.  ;)

Also, I posted it on the Bolter and Chainsword message board here

Ultramarines - What’s Next?

March 7th, 2008

Well, now that the Battle for Stones River Tournament has finished, I’m turning my attention to finishing the Ultramarines.  I’m not talking about finishing putting the models together, because I have most of the battle company done.  I’m talking about which models I’d like to get to finish fleshing out the army as a whole.

Battle for Stones River - Post Tourney

March 7th, 2008

Well, its been about two weeks since the Battle for Stones River tournament occurred.  I finished midway through the pack.  I scored fairly well, in my opinion.  I didn’t expect to win, but I really had a good time.  As far as what I faced, we’ll cover that after the jump.

Dark Heresy - An Introduction

February 1st, 2008

So, Dark Heresy came out last week.  It’s already out of print.  And the line was canceled.  They’re going to finish they’re books off in September and just “concentrate on their fiction.”

Anyway, my copy of the book came in from Barnes and Noble yesterday, and my esteemed opponent got his copy this last weekend.  So, we made characters last night.  He made a Psyker, and I made a Tech-Adept.  The background follows:

Battle for Stones River - Preparation

January 28th, 2008

Well, on February 23rd there will be a tournament held commemorating the Battle for Stones River.  I will be participating, as will my esteemed opponent.  He has already decided on his list, but I was having some difficulty in determining which army I would rather play.  So, yesterday we decided to play a couple games to figure out where I stood.

For His Honour!

January 24th, 2008

Kaerith strode into the briefing room on the Strike Cruiser to meet his Sergeants, and he was immediately disappointed.  Next to his Sergeants was an envoy from the Space Wolves.  “What are they doing here?” he thought to himself.

Seeing the arrival of the Captain, the Sergeants snapped to attention.  The Sergaent of the first squad moved forward.  Kaerith always appreciated Tychus’ candor, but he hoped he would show some restraint this time.

“Captain, our guest is telling us to leave,” Tychus said, gesturing to the wild-haired Space Wolf in front of him.

“Perhaps he can explain why,” Kaerith said, turning to face the stranger.

“Our quarry is here.  You have no need to interfere,” the stranger said plainly.

“It must really be that simple,” Tychus said sardonically.

“Tychus, be quiet,” Kaerith said curtly.  “Where’s your commander?” he asked the Space Wolf.  “I would like to discuss this with him further.”

“He is planetside,” the Space Wolf said.  “It will do you no good talking with him.  He will tell you the same thing I did.”

“We shall see…” Kaerith said.  “Brothers, prepare yourselves!” he said to his Sergeants.  “We leave before the hour is up!”

Project Status

January 23rd, 2008

Well, lets start by listing the projects.

1st: 40k - Eldar
2nd: Fantasy - Dwarves
3rd: 40k - Ultramarines

So, on my Eldar army, I’ve recently purchased Eldrad.  He was the last model I needed to purchase before I finished my army.  I have all my units primed and based.  I just need to slap on some white in areas and be done.  Well, except for the Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders.  Wait, that’s not true.  I can paint them in whatever way I wish.  I honestly don’t like the garish colors that GW recommends.  Therefore, I’m not going to use them.

For the Dwarves, I’m at a stand still.  I’ve put together all the models from the Army box that I needed, but I still need to order my Hammerers, Iron Breaker, and Goblin Hewer.  Then I need to start painting them.  I should probably begin priming and basing them, but I haven’t yet.

Now, the Ultramarines.  I have the entire battle company assembled except for the transports.  That’s right.  All 106 Space Marines have been assembled.  All that’s left is to assemble the 8 Rhinos and the Razorback.  I may start on this tonight.  Or I may paint.  I don’t know, really.  I may also just take a break from painting/modelling to just play some games or read or something.  I don’t want to get burnt out.  I’d much rather play, but that’s not really possible during the week.

So, I think I’m going to proceed in the following fashion:
Assemble a Rhino to see how it goes
Prime and base a Space Marine squad to see how painting them goes
Prime and Base some Dwarves to see how they go
Finish my painting my Eldar

It just sort of depends on my mood, you know.  I really liked assembling the models, but now I have to get to painting them… and I don’t know how I’m going to do that expeditiously.

Ultramarines First Battle

January 22nd, 2008

Well, my esteemed opponent (he’s no longer just fielding a Grey Knights army, so he can’t be my esteemed Grey Knights opponent anymore) and I played a game with our new armies.  He fielded his Space Wolves, and I fielded my Ultramarines.

I didn’t really know what to expect, so I wasn’t too surprised.  He was.  The first turn went to him, and he moved just about everything forward, taking a few potshots when he could and popping smoke on his transports.  My first turn should have been concentrating more on the outright destruction of his transports.  Silly me.

Next turn, drop pods, disembarking marines, and lots of assaulty goodness.  Well, for him.  My Assault Squads should have hung back.  It was the only really grievous tactical mistake.  However, it happens.

The next turns proceed to go in his favor, save my counter charges which annihilated his bikes.  Next, his dreadnought came around and initiated an assault.  My power fist armed unit destroyed it.  Very impressive.  Then his terminators moved in to sever my army’s head.  However, my captain managed to kill 3 of the terminators with his lightning claw.  That was after I switched dice.

By then, the game was over.  My units were decimated.  It won’t happen next game.  That’s the way it works.  I think I’m going to try using Marneus Calgar this time.  I really like the model and I barely need an excuse to use him.
